Teacher Jobs

Posted by admin on February 2, 2009

Many graduates undertake teacher training because it’s a unchanging fact that the world always needs teachers. Few teachers a decade ago could have anticipated the way the world of learning would change and expand with the advent of the internet and online teaching. That may consist of blended learning (conventional teaching enhanced by e-learning) or may take place entirely online.

Teaching jobs now come in an extraordinary range of shapes and forms, many of them enabled directly by the growth of the internet and the new possibilities in online education. Teaching in schools may still be the preferred job description for many teachers, but the horizon has expanded to give teachers a wide choice. Here are some of the options:

  • Creating and delivering e-learning courses, by email or through interactive online teaching.
  • Instructor-led teaching and lecturing in virtual classrooms; distance learning
  • Computer-aided assessments and testing
  • Participatory teaching through webinars
  • Interactive teaching using the medium of forums and online learning communities
  • Personalised, individual online tutoring and homework help.

In the new sphere of e-learning there’s something for everyone – from teachers who prefer developing materials to those interested in high-tech educational events. Perhaps the most popular is the last-mentioned. Online tutoring has created thousands of teacher jobs. Teachers are no longer tied to local catchment areas, but can help learners anywhere in the world. For those who can’t or don’t want to work full-time (such as work-at-home parents), these flexible online teaching jobs are ideal.

It doesn’t really matter what is to be taught; the interactive Web 2.0 platform usually offers a solution. Not long ago it was almost unthinkable for music teacher jobs (for example) to function effectively online. With quality audio and video links, that is now entirely possible. Computers now offer prospect for practical instruction as never before.

The need for education, and with it the growth of new teaching jobs, is growing and figures show that the internet is a key site of that expansion. Some specialities (such as math teacher jobs) are always in high demand, in both K-12 and tertiary education.

Math teacher jobs, English teacher jobs, music teacher jobs, study skills instruction and homework help – you name it and there are opportunities in online teaching and tutoring for almost any educator. Teachers can set their own hours and rates and focus on the educational sub-domain that they find most worthy and rewarding.

Popular Teaching Degrees Online

The field of education offers numerous choices and employment avenues. This is particularly true of the teaching profession where teachers can choose the student audience they intend to teach as well as the subjects they are going to impart knowledge. Teachers can teach at different levels such pre-school, elementary school, middle school, high school and of course, College level. Apart from subject level teaching such as Mathematics or Biology, there are also opportunities for adult literacy teachers or ESL teachers.

Careers can span roles such as tutors, assistants and class room aides for those who are foraying into the teaching discipline. Experienced teachers can complete the appropriate programs to move into areas such as researchers, curriculum specialists, counselors, writers and day care administrators.

Training degrees span Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs available through online and offline channels. A Bachelor degree is usually for 3-4 years whereas Master and Doctoral degrees last 2 years. They also require dissertation and internships under the guidance of experienced educators. Importantly, a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching or its equivalent is a must to enter into the teaching profession.

A Bachelor degree such as Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education and Teaching or Teacher license usually covers child development and learning, educational psychology, pedagogical techniques, classroom management, curriculum design and assessment and trends in K-12 education. A Master’s degree offers enhanced career and salary prospects apart from the fact that some states may prescribe it as a minimal expectation. Course work may include advanced study into program development, curriculum design and development. The program is intended to also prepare educators for leadership and administrative roles.

License requirements apply for any teaching position and this varies based on the state where you are teaching. As part of the License requirements, potential teachers need to successfully complete a teacher training program involving supervised practice teaching. They also need to qualify in the state administered examinations. Though a Bachelor’s degree is sufficient in most states to start the ball rolling for your teaching career, yet some states may specifically require a Master’s degree in Teaching. In some cases, such states may either provide the option of acquiring the Master’s degree upfront before beginning your teaching career or alternatively, may prescribe that you complete the same within a set period, usually within a few years.

If you already possess a Bachelor’s degree in another discipline, then you may not need to undergo a Bachelor degree in Teaching. Instead, you may just need to go through a one year teacher training program to ensure that the licensing requirement is met successfully.

Career outlook for licensed teachers is strong with job growth of 12% forecasted through 2016 by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Salaries are fairly lucrative and are largely dependent on the level of education, experience, location and employer. K-12 teachers averaged in the range of $50,040-$52,450 in 2007. Niche and in-demand areas such as teachers in Mathematics also attract higher salaries and greater employment prospects.

Teaching the Coordinate Grid

Posted by admin on February 1, 2005

Teaching students about the coordinate grid is one thing.  Getting them to remember the order in which coordinate points are plotted is another thing.  The key to having the students remember is practice, practice, and then more practice.  This is not likely to happen unless you can keep the students engaged.  One thing that will help do this is a coordinate grid application. Only afterwards you can try some of the online math games and develop other important abilities.

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.  If that is the case, then a coordinate grid application is worth much more than that.  A good coordinate grid application will do much more than just a picture (coordinate grid worksheet, etc.) ever could.  It will allow the student to experiment as well as visualize how the coordinate pair is derived.  In addition, it will keep the student engaged and hopefully coming back for more.

In searching for a coordinate grid application, look for one that will interactively demonstrate how the coordinate pair is derived. The application should also allow for the student to be quizzed by requiring the student to click on the location specified by a randomly generated coordinate pair or entering the coordinate pair of the random location indicated on the coordinate grid.

You can use the coordinate grid application for teaching, demonstration, and in activity centers/stations.   Whatever you use it for, you’ll find that a moving, highly visual teaching tool is much, much more than a static graphic ever could be.  Add this one to your arsenal of secret weapons today.

As for online math games, you should know that they can teach your children a lot of valuable lessons whereas mathematics are concerned. Regardless of the specific game that you choose, keep in mind that these online math games are destined to make learning fun, emphasizing the important points at the same time. The child will go through geometry, algebra and arithmetic without any problems, enjoying the time he/she spends playing on the Internet.

Many children grow up hating math and not knowing the most important lessons that should represent the foundation of their learning experience. Don’t wait for your child to start hating math and do something about it today. Introduce him/her to the wonderful world of online math games and explain the coordinate grid application in clear and comprehensive terms.

Beginning guitar lessons

When you think of beginning guitar lessons for yourself or kids or someone you know, you have two options to do that. One is taking the learning materials such as those found in online programs and going through the course at your own pace. The learning materials can be e-books audiovisuals charts pictures or interactive softwares.  On the other hand if you choose to take a school to learn guitar playing then you have chosen a good option that will help you master the skills faster. This is because you have a tutor in front of you and you can ask anything that comes in your mind. Also you have to follow the curriculum within the given time. But this can be a problem for many of workers because they may not have ample time to follow the schedule.

Many people want to know how to play guitar but they think it is too complicated and that it takes much time. But I am here to tell you that you can master basic aspects of guitar playing in weeks. The perfection comes with time. If you once master the basic skills the rest remains with you to maximize the level. As you keep on playing the guitar you will increase in knowledge and can play more like a pro.

When we come to the cost of online guitar playing lessons as to that of taking physical schools, they have a lot of difference. You can get self teaching materials much lower than the other.  So if you have the time and the money it is advisable to take the physical school but if not take the online guitar teaching program.

Online teaching

Love teaching, do you? If nothing gives you more pleasure than delivering instructions in the most articulate manner possible to young receptive minds that follow your word as gospel, then teaching is just the career for you. And now, consider this scenario:

You slept late the night before returning home from a late dinner. You set the alarm for 5 am, nonetheless. Sleep hangs heavy on your eyelids as you wake up to the frightful ringing sound of the alarm. You rush through the morning’s ablutions, packing your kids’ lunch box, fixing their breakfast, seeing them off and then rush out of the house in the nick of time to be faced with a huge traffic hold-up. That’s when you remember, you forgot your test corrections on the kitchen window sill…

Now contrast the above scenario with the following:

You returned home late the previous night and forgot to set the alarm. Your kids wake you up. You smile and sing while preparing their breakfast and wave them goodbye cheerfully. Now where did you put away the corrected test papers the night before? You’ll find them, no doubt. You look up at the wall clock. Just one minute to go. There’s still time to go and get your coffee and get the music going as you reach out for the button…

So, which set-up is the one you prefer? If it is the latter then you are definitely in the market for online teaching. Think about this: in the privacy of your home you have the luxury of attending to each student individually. No more shouting at the top of your voice in the classroom. No more trying to capture the attention of each student while juggling your words.

Ever since the world began moving along on ‘bytes skates’, a revolution in education has set in, albeit subtly. More and more students prefer to learn online, letting knowledge percolate seamlessly and noiselessly into their brains.

On the flip side, more and more parents are now considering online classes as a viable option for their offspring. Quite often children perform poorly owing to poor school standards or insensitive and uncaring teachers, badly structured course modules, inadequate teaching plans and so on. Schools with so-called good reputations are known to come up with the most mediocre standards. Every parent is justified in feeling that his or her child deserves to grow equipped with the best knowledge and wherewithal. Anything less, they rightly feel, is a sacrament. But if you cannot get the best possible teaching tools for your child will you let him or her grow without them?

There are some other concern-causing factors. Shy kids often don’t ask questions of their teachers, letting their doubts remain unclear. This can have dangerous fallout as it foments disinterest and ultimately apathy. Hiring a competent tutor to make up for the lag is an option, certainly, but it could turn out to be expensive and unreliable. Online tutoring is definitely an attractive way out.
